The film was supposed to contrast the misogynist bachelor Somalingam (Prasad) with the ‘modern’ Janaki (Bhanumathi) who insists on her equal rights. It opens with the culturally loaded scene of Janaki playing badminton and her feminism is presented as strident and disruptive.
